Overview: Are you comedy-curious and finally ready to give it a go? Are you a current comic who wants to punch up your current set? Are you a grouch with grievances to air, but want to make it funny? We got choo! This is a fast-paced, JAM packed, 2 hour, quick and dirty workshop designed to meet you where you're at, and take you to the next level! We'll cover all the comedic tools you need, including:
basic joke structure
a variety of comedic tools to develop a comedic piece to full potential
building in tags and act outs after a joke for additional joke pay offs
developing your comedic point of view
building a solid stage presence
facing fear of public speaking
how to generate a "tight five" minutes
spinning crowd interactions to lead into your next joke
managing hecklers
local/ virtual open mics to work your craft
This course will be led by full-time road comic, improviser, performance artist, and MC, Tamale Sepp. Tamale is the Managing Director for Brass Chuckles Comedy- comedy that kicks brass! She has also been a part of the Second City family since 2004, and currently teaches stand-up and storytelling for them as she tours. Tamale launched her LIFE BEHIND (HANDLE)BARS comedy tour in 2023 and is building her first album on the road, between adventures. Voted one of Chicago's "Best Stand Up Comics" by The Reader (second to Hannibal Buress), she loves geeking out about stand up with others. If you've ever wanted to try stand up, want to breathe fresh life into your current set, or are just curious about how stand up comedy works, THIS is the workshop for YOU. Tamale Sepp a featured motorcyclist in the newly released, award winning documentary, "Women in the Front Seat", Tamale has launched her LIFE BEHIND (HANDLE)BARS comedy tour! Voted one of Chicago's "Best Stand Up Comics" by The Reader (second to Hannibal Buress) and a performer and instructor for The Second City since 2004, she pulls from her adventures to playfully engage audiences at festivals (Gilda's Laugh Fest, Second City's ScruggsFest, Cleveland Comedy Festival), clubs (Zanies, Laugh Factory, Gotham, Laughing Skull), and super sketchy Waffle House parking lots across the country (all of them). As she travels, she also teaches and produces shows as the Managing Director of Brass Chuckles Comedy- comedy that kicks brass! A full-time road comic living that sweet, sweet van life, Tamale is diligently fine tuning her first album while she skydives (Sisters in Skydiving Coach, Send Newbs Mentorship Program, Pink Mafia Sister), rides motorcycles (Bikes and Mics, Babes Ride Out, The Bleeders MC), and travels the country with her Spider Spaniel Coven.
